Born in Oakland, California as part of the “Baby Boomer” generation. Son of a Naval Officer, Bob and his family moved about the United States every three years, finally settling down in Palo Alto, California and attending Stanford University and earning a Naval Reserve Officer Training four year scholarship, during which he played basketball for the University for three years. Initially majoring in industrial engineering, Bob had a change of heart and switched majors to English history, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University in 1970. Bob received his commission as an ensign in the United States Navy and was initially stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. Bob served in several different positions on several different destroyers, earning his certification as a Fleet Officer of the Deck (OOD(F)) and subsequently assigned as Operations Officer for Destroyer Squadron 20 on the East Coast. Bob served one year of duty aboard ship in Vietnam earning the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V”.
Deciding it was time to leave the sea and raise a family, Bob matriculated at The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, graduating with a Juris Doctor degree in 1978, having become a member of the Traynor Honor Society and Editor of the Pacific Law Journal.
Bob was very fortunate being offered an associate position with a new Fresno law firm, Dietrich, Glasrud and Jones and moved his family to Fresno in 1978 and has lived here ever since. Bob, through the medium of his law corporation, joined the firm of Bolen Fransen Cutts LLP in December of 2017.
Bob is certified by the California State Bar as a specialist in taxation. Over the past forty years, Bob’s practice has focused primarily on business organizations, the formation and taxation thereof and estate planning for business entity owners and other individuals.
In his spare time, Bob has and continues to participate in several civic organizations including Storyland Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of United Cerebral Palsy and the Advisory Board for the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno. Bob is also a member of The Academy, a small group of lifetime learners who provide presentations on a rotating basis to that group. Bob’s academic passion is English History as evidenced by his past twenty years of attendance at the International Summer School at Cambridge University in England, as well as currently working on Master of Arts in English History at Fresno Pacific University.
Bob has two adult children and two very young grandchildren living on opposite sides of the United States.
